"Cleveland's biggest impediment to achieving civic greatness is the pessimistic, unenthusiastic mindset of many within our region, particularly those with the ability to express their opinions to mass audiences. Consider recent local headlines: "Cleveland is falling apart - Who will pick up the pieces?" and "Pittsburgh's power over Cleveland."
OK. That is true. I have to take an Op-Ed shot here, though:
Dear Mayor,
Where have you been? {We never see you. We never hear you.}
Exactly, what are you doing to take this city into modern times?
I know that you like the "behind the scenes" technique. It is the wrong technique for a dying city!

Hi Robert,
If t was just me saying that our Mayor is MIA mot of the time, than I would be ok saying that you have a point. But it is not just me. I am glad that you have been able to communicate with him. As for me, I cannot wait to SEE a new Mayor. And the next election can't come soon enough.

I have to say that I disagree with you on this point. Maybe I am going to the wrong events, but I have seen and shaken hands with the mayor on multiple occasions over the past year. He was at the Diversity Fair (for minorities and women owned businesses) at the Cleveland Clinic and the Aids Walk. I have sent emails to his office and been answered as well. I could understand, if I was an important person, but I am just a citizen and business owner. I agree that the city needs to address many issues: if Mayor Jackson wants to be the greenest city in the country, then make sure we get curbside recycling in ALL parts of the city. But as to being MIA, I think that you are off base.
